We Now Offer 3D Laser Scanning!

At Tristar Marine, we're excited to announce that we've recently added 3D laser scanning to our list of services.

With its use, we are able to obtain precise measurements of an object's size and shape, converting the data into a digital 3D dimensional representation on the computer.

Applications in the Marine Industry

Usually, designers and engineers were brought on board to measure existing systems and spaces with tape measures when undergoing ship checks in which these measurements are used to create construction documents.

However, they're not always super accurate. So we have to add in extra allowances to account for any discrepancies, especially on older vessels needing equipment retrofits which require access to tight, confined spaces.

These allowances can also be expensive and hinder us because we think there isn't enough space, when really there is.

Thus, that's where our 3D scans come in handy

3D Laser Scanning available to us are quite effective in their ability to take a vast number of measurements in a short period of time, with an accuracy of within 3 mm over 10 meter distances!

The information gathered from these scans can then be used for a variety of tasks such as; installing a ballast water treatment system, identifying structural damage, adding exhaust gas cleaning systems, converting ships, replacing pipelines, and other necessary structural & machinery adjustments.

Here are some other benefits of 3D Laser Scanning mentioned below;

Increased Speed & Accuracy

By recording millions of data points in a matter of seconds using 3D scanning, vast surroundings may be examined quickly and practically every single detail is captured.

Risk Mitigation

Surveyors may observe surroundings without physically entering them, which is perfect for hazardous and unstable locations.

Reduced Costs and Time

Lower man-hours spent onsite for measurements result in less time and costs.
